Sacred Heart Elementary accepts the challenge of the Roman Catholic Church in the Pittsburgh Diocese to educate children preschool through grade eight in a spiritually nurturing and disciplined environment. Our primary purpose is to form students in the likeness of Jesus Christ as evidenced in the values and teachings of the Church.
The school program is a dynamic blend of traditional curricula and methods in conjunction with contemporary educational theories and practices. We celebrate the cultural diversity within the Sacred Heart School community and strive to develop within our students a desire to discover and serve God and humanity.
At the intermediate level (grades 4 and 5), students continue to focus on developing strong reading, writing, and math skills, but they also spend more time on subjects such as social studies, science, and Spanish. The students change classes for different curricular areas and there is more teacher specialization in particular subjects, such as math and science.
At the primary (Kindergarten to grade 3) level, the focus is on developing strong reading and math skills. Small group instruction in math and reading helps individualize instruction to each child’s level. Students are also introduced in an engaging way to subjects such as science, social studies, Spanish, and computer skills.

In middle school (grades 6 to 8), teachers specialize in subjects such as math, science, social studies, English and Spanish. Throughout all classes, there is an emphasis on developing strong writing. Students learn study skills, research techniques, and time management; all will serve them well as they move on to high school and college.
At this level, students are given more opportunities to take on leadership roles in the school in service projects, safety patrol, and other areas. At the same time, they benefit from continuing in a familiar and supportive environment as they take on new challenges academically and otherwise.
